Over and above the $300 goal.

I'm starting to think my initial request was too modest! Thanks so much to everybody who has pledged so far... and everybody who is thinking about pledging now. The $300 goal is the barebones of what I need to make the project work. It's looking pretty good for exceeding that goal - given that we already have $255 pledged at day 2, with 25 days to go! - so I wanted to post and let you all know in more detail what extra money can do for the project.

The main thing is it would help me promote the book to a wider audience. I can buy advertising on places like Facebook, Goodreads, Kindle Nation and Project Wonderful, and I can get business-card-stock-sized ads printed about the book for my writers to pass out at readings and the like. The business cards probably wouldn't cost much - $10 to $20 at local print shops, according to my research - but ads on websites can cost pretty much as much money as you're willing to spend. For example, a month of targeted advertising on Goodreads at $5/day would run $150.

I also hope people will continue to pledge because they like the rewards! I think the $10 pledge is an especially good deal for readers who love poetry, as the three books they will receive would have cost them around $14 plus taxes.

I'm very excited about this project, and really grateful to this community for making it possible.

I just want to say I am bowled over by the response! I was expecting a much quieter beginning. Thanks so much to everybody who has pledged.
