Posted project update #6SHIPPING!
Hi everyone! Dan Edwards from Kickstarter here! I've already mailed out about 3/4 of the copies of Mr. McFrawley's Traveling Show and the rest are going out tomorrow. Thanks again for your support. It blows my mind that this project went from "I'll putter around on this and see what happens" to "It's ON!" almost entirely as a result of your support. You've altered the entire trajectory of my career, and for that I have lots of love for you all!
In looking at the "Backer Report" Kickstarter provides, I noticed that some of you pledged at the end of March in 2010. That means that from ordering to receiving, some of you had to wait nearly a year. I apologize for the book taking longer than I expected, but I have included a few things to make it up to you.
1) Everyone got an upgrade in the number of tarot cards that came with your order.
2) The book DOUBLED IN LENGTH. It's now 64 pages long and has over 50 illustrations. I like to think you got even more than you paid for!
I'd love to hear what you all think when your copy comes in.
A couple of housekeeping issues: For those of you who ordered the oversized prints of pages of the book, the shipping tubes will be in later this week, so those'll ship separately once they come in.
The Read Along version will be finalized soon. I'll be delivering that as an mp3 link to expedite delivery! You've all waited long enough. Anyone who wants it in CD form, please contact me and I'd be glad to take care of that for you!
I will be putting together an iPad version of the book with the Read Along audio in the near future. I'll also be putting up a YouTube video of the first act of the story with audio and some animation in the next few months, just to help drive interest. Check the blog or join my mailing list to find out more!
For any friends or family who sees your copy and might like their own, please send them to http://www.dsedwards.com/buy.html
Last but not least, I'm working on a new book. I'll be putting that project up on Kickstarter, too, but I'm going to wait until I'm closer to finished this time! If you'd like to keep up with this project, please check out the blog or reply here to join my new mailing list! It's going to be very infrequent (the blog will be my main form of communication), so please join to find out when my new book will be available! I'll try not to bug you very often.
Thanks again!
Dan

Posted project update #4Mr. McFrawley's Traveling Show progresses
Hi everyone!
Dan here, back again to give an update to those of you who haven't been following the tumblr blog about my book!
First off, your money is safe and sound and in good hands. You may remember that we reached funding on June 1st and I set the tentative goal of a Halloween completion. At the time, I had maybe 8 illustrations done. I now have, including the promotional tarot cards and the scratchboard pieces that I did as a reward to some of you kind backers, well over 50 illustrations done.
I do not, however, have the book done. As those of you who are following the blog can attest, I've posted over 30 illustrations since June. The book has grown (as perhaps first books are likely to do?) beyond the initial 32 pages to what is likely to be a 48 page final product. See, I had a story mapped out, and darnit, I wasn't about to start cutting stuff. Also, when I draw something that looks good, I really want to see it colored and on glossy paper!
I apologize that this has put me behind schedule, but I'm sure you'll see where the extra care has gone during these very long last five (5!?) months.
As you may know, I lost my job making terrible banner ads back on August 30th, so for the past two months I have been eating, sleeping and breathing this book. Instead of completing one or two illustrations a week, I've been averaging more than three. I know, after all, that I only start making money again once it's completed and for sale in as many places as humanly possible. I'm very happy with that course of events - I'm only saying it here so you'll realize that my motivation to keep working and to make a phenomenal finished product are of even greater importance to me, both creatively and financially, than ever before.
Thanks again for your support. The book will be done within the next two weeks. After that, it is up to the printing company, but I see no reason why it won't be delivered to you by the end of November.
And to my friends who I haven't seen in five months, I look forward to getting together once all is said and done, putting our feet up and having a nice long visit.
Thank you!
Dan

I have to run out for the afternoon, but before I go I want to just drop you all one more note thanking you for your help. Thanks to Danny, Binaca, and Julia, who blogged, facebooked or tweeted the heck out of this project to all of their friends. Thanks to Al, the first backer we had. Thanks to Darrin, Tom, Elizabeth, Michael and all the other supporters who came through in a last minute effort to push this project over the line. To everyone who has offered anything, from $2 or just words of encouragement to those who were able to offer more, I sincerely thank you all! I was always excited about this project - now I'm raring to go! But what better way to show my support than to work really hard and make it the very best that I can! Please keep sending me messages and I'll keep blogging as much as I possibly can. I still can't say the exact completion date, but I will keep you all posted... Thanks, and Happy Memorial Day! Hug a soldier and eat a cheeseburger for me!

Hi everyone - we're moving into our last week of Mr McFrawley's Kickstarter run. As you might have noticed, we're still $1,600 shy of the final amount. I feel a little silly about it - $5000 was a relatively arbitrary number. It's not enough to print the number of copies (250?) that I no doubt will want to print, but I figured it was enough to help me subsidize the printing process some. Basically I found a book like mine with art that was comparable that was trying to raise $5000 and ended up raising something like 180%. I figured if it worked for them... Of course, some people have a built in fan base, and I think I neglected to consider that. Kickstarter seems to do very well by bands or artists who drive a lot of visitors to their work. This is my first book, so I don't have that base established yet. So we're squeaking along. A word of consolation - If the Kickstarter doesn't happen, I'm still making this book. Kickstarter takes 5% off the top for their service. If we can't raise our $5,000, I'd still like to print the book myself and save that 5%. I'd love it if each of you would stay committed to buying a copy. It's great to know that nearly 60 people have decided to join me on this adventure. I'd love to print 250 copies and all 13 tarot cards, but the posters and some of the other elements might not end up printed if the Kickstarter doesn't make it to the end. For now, though, let's see if this thing can make it across the finish line! One last push!

Just got your beautiful book, Dan, and can't wait to read it. Also, the awesome pigeon you drew for me put a smile on my face that has lasted 20 minutes (and counting). Wishing you great luck and I'm on your side!
The book is amazing! You've done unbelievable work. Thanks for creating something so beautiful.
I am absolutely amazed at the creativity and beautiful artwork Dan! The book is beautiful, I am truly proud to have been even the smallest bit associated with the creation.
