Toys Are Kickstarter: Nicole Becomes A Monster!

There aren't many things you could do in this world that are more narcissistic than commissioning a sculpture of yourself. Personally, I'd always told myself I wasn't the type of person to pay for an artistic rendering of my own body — but I found out I was wrong the moment I saw Zac Shavrick's project to create personalized sculptures of backers as themselves, or if they'd like, as monsters. Obviously, I needed to be immortalized in metal. I mean, it's a cooler thing to show your grandkids than Facebook photos from college, right?

Since his project ended in July, Zac's been hard at work hammering out his 120+ Kickstarter orders, preparing for a show in October. Judging by the photos he's been posting on his blog so far, the sculptures modeled after backer-submitted photos are uncannily good at capturing the soul of their subjects.

A selection of my favorites:

Zac says he's planning to launch another Kickstarter project — one which he describes as "massive" — so it seems that we haven't seen the end of his amazing work yet. For now, though, anyone can go to his show on October 16th at Benji & Jakes at 5 Horseshoe Lake Road, White Lake, New York. If you want to order your own metal sculpture post-Kickstarter, you can still do so here. But since blowin' up on reddit, the whole Internet has caught on, so act quickly!
