Black Magic Piano: The Story + Photos

Photo-full

Two years ago, filmmaker Edward Symes moved to New York City and, feeling spontaneously inspired, wrote a series of songs on the black grand piano that took up almost the entirety of his tiny West Village sublet. Figuring he could be onto something, he got in touch with musician Doran Danoff, and the two developed and recorded the songs together.

What materialized was not just an album but an accompanying film by Symes and a dance piece choreographed by Elizabeth Wilkinson. The trio has now brought the ambitious project, called Black Magic Piano, to Kickstarter, and this past Friday they staged a performance of the work at Frontrunner Gallery to a packed house. Check out photos of the event below, and support the project here.
